Found in 1895, Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children’s is the largest free-of-charge pediatric hospital in Sri Lanka, and one of the largest in South Asia. LRH’s mission is to provide safe and high quality care to all children not only in Sri Lanka, but in neighboring countries as well. The hospital itself has approximately 900 beds in active use, but is equipped to handle over 1,200. Its Outpatient Department sees around 1,500-1,700 children daily and operates 24/7. In total the hospital sees over 1 million outpatient visits annually.
Lady Ridgeway Hospital is also affiliated with the University of Colombo and Postgraduate institute of Medicine(PGIM), where the train undergraduates, postgraduates, doctors, and nurses.
Lady Ridgeway Hospital for children isn’t just a hospital, it is a beacon for healing and hope. Its commitment to free and inclusive specialized treatment has made it a huge success to Sri Lanka’s healthcare system. Its vision is to be one of the best centers for pediatric health care in the region.
Though it is government-funded, the hospital relies heavily on donations for equipment, patient support services, and infrastructure improvements. This is why Light for Lanka has stepped up to help. Gathering donations for Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children is our current project. Through things like raffles, garage sales, and fun games we are hoping to gather the funds necessary to order several vital supplies.
